Education programs

Conservation and electrical safety
At Nobles Cooperative Electric, you and your families safety is a top priority. To educate consumers about electrical safety and energy conservation, Nobles Cooperative Electric offers safety demonstrations to the area. We attend schools, local fairs and other events with a hotline safety demonstration.

Scholarships
Your electric cooperative awards high school scholarships to area high school seniors. The scholarships come from unclaimed capital credits given to the Operation Round Up program. Cooperative members that participate in Operation Round Up allow their electric bills to be rounded up to the nearest dollar. The extra cents are administered by an independent trust board that distributes funds for scholarships and other non-profit organizations. Scholarships are awarded for each of Nobles' six districts and one at-large. The scholarship check is jointly issued to the student and school after successfully completing one semester or quarter of higher education.

Coal Creek Tour
See where and how your electricity is produced! Join other cooperative members in the summer on a three-day tour to North Dakota. Some of the highlights of the trip include a tour of Coal Creek Station, Falkirk Mine, Fort Mandan, Medora Musical and Pitchfork Fondue. The tour price includes transportation, two meals and two nights of lodging.

Trimont Wind Farm Tour
It's a breeze to learn about wind energy - Thanks to the Trimont Wind Farm. Each year your cooperative participants in a tour of Minnesota’s first commercial-scale, landowner-developed wind farm. The wind farm generates up to 100 megawatts (MW) of clean, renewable energy. Forty-three landowners in Jackson and Martin counties partnered with PPM Energy and Great River Energy to develop the project. Great River Energy also purchases the output from three smaller wind projects in Chandler, Minnesota; Dodge Center, Minnesota, and Jackson County, Minnesota.

Wind Seminar
Recently, Nobles Cooperative Electric began sponsoring teachers to attend the Laurentian Environmental Center by Virginia, Minnesota. Here teachers learn about wind, which helps them develop lesson plans on this popular topic.

Lignite Seminar
Each year our power supplier, Great River Energy (GRE), sponsors 10 Minnesota teachers to attend the lignite seminar. Teachers learn about lignite coal and its role in providing electricity.
